On that great and dreadful day

Struck and smitten anger fell
It was as if He went to hell

God spared not - held nothing back
All His fury would attack
The Father was angry with His Son

The cup of anger Christ would drink
And under judgment He would sink

Forsaken by His God and LORD
Pierced through God's fury-justice sword
The Father was angry with His Son

All this He took so I'd have none
All judgment fell upon the Son

He rose, killed death, and lives today
Bow to the God-Man God did slay
The Father always loved His Son
Yes, He always loves His Son

Because He bore God's fury-rage
With us God's pleased e'en to the age
The Father's pleased with His own Son
Yes, always pleased with His own Son

There is none like Jesus Christ
He gave us all and sacrificed
Oh great salvation so high priced
The Father was angry with His Son
That day, He was angry with His Son!
