Darkness is a sign of God's very personal wrath and anger all over the Bible. And darkness consumed Jesus at the cross:
"Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces by him . . . with an overflowing flood he will make a complete end of the adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness." Nahum 1:6, 8
"From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land." Matthew 27:45
On that cross, Jesus endured the darkness of the personal wrath and anger of God, so that we might enjoy the light of God's mercy, grace, and forgiveness!
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
